BRIO Light and Sound Timber Train Review

We originally bought a battery operated train that moves on its own along the track but that didn't work well for our young children. They wanted to push it along faster or backwards or just stop it while it was moving and that causes damage to the train and was confusing to the kids. The liked the train because of the light and sound but were frustrated by not knowing how to play with it.
This train is a great idea in that it works like any other train for the wooden tracks; you just push it along. However the children also get the light and sound that they liked from the other train, just without the confusion.
The two trailing cars are a good value given the engine by itself is not much less. Young kids might have problems with these cars since the logs separate from the carrier so they are a bit more complicated to push or pick up. Still this is a nice set. We also got a green diesel engine that works the same way and there is also an orange light and sound engine available that looks nice.
This engine has been stepped on and thrown about the room and has stood up well. This is highly recommended for young children (2-4).

A great, colorful engine. My son loves this "snowplow choo choo" and still plays with it after a year. The drive shafts move with the wheels. Works with his Thomas set, is much less expensive and higher quality than Thomas.

The Old Steam Engine is a stupendous engine! A push-along engine with moving pistons that move faster as the engine goes faster, just like the steam engines of old.Compatible with most wooden train rail systems. Ages 3 and above. 33537
