Southern Pacific #4449 was the last engine manufactured in SP's first order of GS-4 locomotives. #4449 was placed into service on May 30, 1941, and spent its early career assigned to the Coast Daylight, SP's premier passenger train between San Francisco and Los Angeles, California, but it also pulled many other of the SP's named passenger trains.

Bachmann Trains Prairie 2 - 6 - 2 with Smoke and Tender - B and O 9720 Review

(More customer reviews)The particular train that I received had a manufacturing defect, and has been returned directly to Bachmann for repair or replacement. The defect was the heating element in the smoke box, which was placed too close to the smoke stack. It ultimately melted a hole through the smoke stack.
Otherwise, this train was great to look at, and fun to run. We look forward to receiving one that is not defective.

(More customer reviews)This is a great toy for train loving kids, a great upgrade as your child grows out of the wooden version. It has also proven to be a useful way to teach him how to be careful with something. It is not fragile, but nowhere near as durable (obviously) as the wooden (Brio) Thomas trains & accessories, and requires more care and attention.
Useful bit of info: this set only has enough track for a (pretty boring) oval. If you want to expand it, you need to know which color ez-track comes in the set (Bachman EZ track comes in two colors: black and grey roadbed). None of the pictures or descriptions I was able to find told that: it's the black roadbed. This is a bit of a disadvantage, and my only complaint, as the number of expansion options from bachmann for the black roadbed are much more limited than for the grey. I don't know why.

His 3 year old brother took his RC train and added it to the set so it would push the train for them. They seem to enjoy it more when they are pushing the train themselves. This was cheaper at Target.
They cannot build it themselves yet but do enjoy helping us put it together.
