Bachmann Trains Tweetsie Railroad Ready-to-Run Large Scale Train Set Review

Bachmann Trains Tweetsie Railroad Ready-to-Run Large Scale Train Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The set was supposed to be for my 5-year old son, yet I think I appreciated it more than he does. High quality craftmanship and heavy gauge wiring. The E-Z Track System was very easy to assemble. Powerful transformer should you decide to add more trains later on.

Originally carrying passengers through the Blue Ridge mountains from Johnson City, Tennessee to Boone, North Carolina was the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC). Operating today and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, you?ll understand this train?s nickname when you hear the Tweetsie?s whistle echoing across the valleys of the Blue Ridge. NOTE: This set is NOT recommended for outdoor use.

O-27 The Scout Freight Set Review

O-27 The Scout Freight Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own 8 Lionel trains dating from 1946 to present -- this "Scout" is one of the weaker links in an otherwise great line of trains. I bought it for my grandson as his first O gauge -- it may be his last Lionel.
I'm not sure who is in charge at Lionel (try and find out who really owns them or where they are located), but they need to improve their engineering and quality control. The 3 of the 4 most recent purchases have not been up to the quality of Williams or MTH. From now on I'll buy other brands of O gauge engines or sets first.
Oh, by the way, Lionel never finished the sequel to their DVD film, "Lionelville Destination: Adventure" -- it leaves you hangin' with no resolution to the story (apologies to my grandkids).

HO Spectrum USRA 2-10-2 Light w/DCC, SOU #5224 Review

HO Spectrum USRA 2-10-2 Light w/DCC, SOU #5224
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This locomotive has all the problems of the ones on which it is based: turn radius. It will negotiate 18" but loses over half its speed and may derail if your track isn't perfectly laid out. On 22" it still slows down significantly more than smaller locomotives. However, I can't hold any of these "problems" against the model because they're flaws with the original design. Also like the original design, it can pull a LOT. It doesn't contain too many small parts, making more durable than most of the Spectrum line. If you run it "realistically" with slow-ish freight on easy turns you'll be very happy.

My first On30 product and it's awesome. Highly detailed with good solid construction. I bought it for my Christmas Village layout, but I'm already in the process of building a model railroad layout. I would absolutely recommend this train set to anyone.

Lionel 6-18733 Thomas & Friends Percy Steam Loco Review

Lionel 6-18733 Thomas and Friends Percy Steam Loco
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Lionel engine is well made and provides hours of entertainment. I would give a couple of cautions to parents: 1) wait until your child is 8 years old as Lionel recommends. Setting up an electric train set can be very frustrating to younger children. 2) Look at the HO scale first. If your kids played with the wooden or take-a-long Thomas they are use to playing with small toys. The HO scale Thomas train sets are a lot cheaper (an entire HO train set cost half as an O scale engine). If they tire of electric trains quickly, you're not out a lot of money.

Marklin Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy American Starter Z scale Train Set Review

Marklin Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy American Starter Z scale Train Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Marklin is to trains what the swiss are to watches. You pay a lot but they aren't for kids and they can be passed on for generations like a fine watch. The detail and craftsmanship for these Z scale trains is crazy with each car being like an inch long however because they are so small the parts are tiny and can be broken easily so no kids allowed within 10 feet of these. I own a few other marklins and longest one I've owned is 30 years now and still runs like a champ! It still cost me over a hundred dollars for a beginner set way back then.

Lionel 36847 Polar Express Steam Sounds Tender Review

Lionel 36847 Polar Express Steam Sounds Tender
Average Reviews:

I got this tender with the extras for my grandson Ashton's Polar Express Train set. The set came with a tender but this one offers more in the way of realistic sounds. Adds punch to the set. Very well built. Strong and should last for years. Ashton will get years of enjoyment from this addition.

Lionel Polar Express Train Set - G-Gauge Review

Lionel Polar Express Train Set - G-Gauge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was surprised to see the negative reviews on this product, but after reading them I think most of them were from people that did not read or understand the product description. This is a 'G' scale toy plastic train with plastic track that is battery powered and is controlled by an R/C unit.
I have not seen another 'G' scale set with better quality equipment and features for the price. The engine has built-in sound that makes a steam 'chuff' noise synchronized to the speed of the engine. It also makes a steam brake release noise when it stops. It has a bell sound and whistle that you can control from the R/C unit. It has 3 speeds in both forward and reverse directions. The speeds seems very prototypical. The speed is also momentum controlled - the train speeds up and slows down at a measured pace just like a real train. The detail on the engine is quite good for a 'toy' train.
I had the same experience with the included batteries as others - they barely moved the train for a few minutes and then conked out. I replaced the standard batteries with alkaline ones and it ran for about 10 hours before needing replacement. I have switched to a compatible 9.6v rechargeable battery that works great, is cheaper to run, and environmentally better.
The packaging states the set is for kids 4 years or older. Both my 4-1/2 year old and 2 year old can run the train with the R/C controller (and did not stop playing with it for almost a week). However they do not have the dexterity to couple the cars or snap the track together. I would guess that a 5 or 6 year old would be able to assemble and operate everything without adult help. They have banged the engine, thrown the controller, and knocked the coaches around quite a bit without any damage.
For model railroaders or anyone who wants to tinker, you could add lighting to the coaches fairly easily. I think the train would work well outdoors if you want to try creating a garden railway. I do wish Lionel would make more track options - an 'X' crossing and R/L hand switches would allow expansion to a true train layout instead of just an oval or circle.
I don't think you could find a better quality radio controlled toy 'G' scale train with so many features for such a low price.

Lionel New York Central Freight Set 0-8-0 Review

Lionel New York Central Freight Set 0-8-0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Great, durable starter set. Pieces are solid and include everything to get started. Most of the starter kit price goes into a high quality engine, cars, connectors and transformer. No additional scenery or additional track. These would need to be additional purchases. If you are planning to keep this for a number of years and is not a "throw away" toy, then this is a good choice. My two (almost three) and four year old love the set. We purchased the upgraded version with the bell and whistle so make sure you get the set with the train sounds.

Lionel Little Lines Train Playset Review

Lionel Little Lines Train Playset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3 yr old son got this train for Christmas. He loves it! Had no problems with the remote and it is very easy for him to play with. It goes in forward and reverse with ease, even with him moving it back and forth as fast as he can. Only problem is that it doesn't have a lot of track with it. Can someone write a review and post where you can find more track and what type of track this train uses?

Lionel Little Lines brings the rich tradition of Lionel to young children ages 2½ and up. Snap-together track and a simple remote controller for forward and reverse movement make it easy for little hands to operate. Authentic train details and realistic sounds make it a classic Lionel product. Our introductory offer of this exciting product line is a 49-piece train playset that comes with a complete layout of track, including two bridges and railroad crossing, and a finely-detailed train with a steam engine, tender, gondola, and caboose. Plus, it even includes a working freight station with crane, cargo slide, and two-way cargo dump. A billboard and three signs complete the scene.
