Formula 1 2010 (PC DVD) Review

Formula 1 2010 (PC DVD)

Folks, first let me clear the air, this is a very good game, one that will not disappoint any PC racer who wants to experience the F1 series from the initial interview though testing, practice, qualifying, and racing... including the post race interview after placing in the top three. Or a top ten finish may get you an interview at your traile. If you're looking for a complete fun challenging racing experience this game offers it!
Now, I could... but won't compare this to other games (i.e iRacing, GTR2/Evo, rfactor) as that would not be fair. Not that they're better, just offer different type racing. Lets understand what the game developers set out to develop plus claimed the game would offer.... Did they achieved their goal.
Code Masters announced they would develop a F1 game that offered a complete F1 experience and they have achieved this goal, IMHO! They've delivered this through a game that offers plenty of re-playability, great graphics, challenging AI, 19 real world tracks, animated and interactive pit stops, including the interactions of a complete race weekend from P1, P2, P3 practice sessions to Q1, Q2, Q3 qualifying sessions, and the full race with 24 cars on the track at the same time... just like the real F1 weekend!
They also incorporated the rules such as limited 8 engines for a full season, limited tires for a race weekend, using 2 different tire compounds during a Dry Race and offering 2 wet compounds for rainy races... full wets and intermediate compound wet tires.
Now for those folks who like list, here is what the game from my experience, not reading off the box:
1) Great Graphics
2) Challenging AI
3) 19 Real World Tracks
4) 24 Cars / 12 teams
5) Garage, Pit Stops, and On-The-Fly Interactions with Car Setups, your Engineer, and Teammate
6) Full Changing Dynamic Weather, from Dry-to-Wet and Wet-to-Dry
7) Multi-Wheel Settings for Force Feedback
8) Multi-Graphic Settings for Slower machines (the guys stating they could not run needed to lower settings)
9) Very Good Sounds
10) Mechanical Issues and dynamic tire wear with punctures
11) Night racing at Singapore Circuit
12) Drying race line when rain stops and reverse effect when rain starts
13) Fantastic progressive career mode from 3, 5, or 7 seasons
14) Quick Race Game Mode
15) Time Trials and Leaderboards
16) Multi Player (I can not attest to Multi-Player, Satellite connection)
17) Car improvements after testing like added Downforce parts, etc.
18) Damage Model, which affects car performance
19) Fuel and Tire wear
20) Full Assist modes for braking, steering, and control or all 100% off
21) Dynamic Racing line to help learn track position during racing
OK, you get the idea.. now the feeling of the car IMHO is very good. Some folks say the physics are not SIm like... but they are, but not Full Sim Like, it is not, you need to stick with this game and search out the right settings for your driving style. The game also is a must for a Driving Wheel/Steering Wheel... if you do not have one, you need to get one. G25 the best or G27.
Finally, Code Masters have already developed a patch that is due out in the next 5-15 days, A complete list of the issues, yes there are some bugs, as with any game these days; but Codies have addressed 95% of the main issues listed on the forum. They've really seemed to have listened and seems that they are really trying o fix the issues listed see link below for full list and updates:

I highly recommend this game for any real PC Racer from Casual to Serious. I've raced two full season, 38 races, and posted a fair time on all tracks dry and wet on the leaderboards (GFWL id = RMK455) I've played over 72 hours and this is w/out patch... I've experienced very few issues, though I still look forward to the patch.
I own iRacing, Dirt 1/2, GTR2/GTL, rfactor, GTR Evo, NFS Shift, GT4/GT Prologue and many many other racing games, and I recommend this games as one of the best games that simulate a full and complete feeling of being in a season driving a F1 car.
I hope this review was helpful... and my final tip.. Do Not pay over 50 dollars for this PC DVD... the OEM recommended price is $49.99 US. Steam offers this game for those who like steam, buying the DVD is a good idea if you like to own the actual game, multi-player is the Games for Windows Live, not Steam.

Richard Burns Rally Review

Richard Burns Rally

How can I explain... I have tried to define to friends how accurate and realistic the cars handle in this game and how this simulation has achieved a level of excitement and fulfillment that stands apart from all other games, but it is not until they finally come over to drive it that they say "..now I see why you could not explain this!" or as one girl said.. "I could just keep driving...!"
It takes some time to learn to handle the cars well. The included driving school and it's advanced techniques is a must for good stage times. It could actually take years of intense white knuckle fun to master this game.
I have about thirty driving games including all types of racing along with two computers equipped with Force Feedback steering wheels (FF is a must to fully experience this game) Before the arrival of Richard Burns the most realistic and fulfilling for myself and friends continued to be Grand Prix Legends, Nascar Racing 2003, SCC mod for F1 Challenge 99-02. These games along with others keep you coming back and drawing you in for more where others in comparison like the Colin McRae series seem "two dimensional", flat and have canned predicable responses that quickly become boring at best.
The dynamics of Richard Burns cars and tracks are on a whole new level of refinement such that you can really feel the mass of the car change in how it reacts to the suspension at different speeds and angles to the road and road conditions. Get unstable from hitting ruts and potholes at high speeds or bumping a berm on the edge of a fast narrow road. Use the crown of the road to your advantage while hooking your inside tires into the low side of a turn. And, while keeping the gas on at varying levels, use your left foot to work the brake into a turn keeping your power up while throwing the weight of the car forward to loosen the rear grip a little and increase traction on the front tires. Then, power out of your turn in a four wheel drift as you try to focus on what the co-driver is saying as he calls out the turns ahead while you are working the wheel and throttle feverishly trying to get this corner just right. Watch the realistic replay with long hanging dust trails for those one or two corners where you did get it just right and you scream "YES!" in awe of the beauty and fulfillment of a perfectly executed corner. This game is very challenging in the best sense of the word. It is very dimensional and is simply fun to drive at any speed and yet the more you choose to work and focus on increasing the challenge for better stage times, so will increase the depth of deserved satisfaction.
It goes on and on. As you will too into endless captivating hours of amazement and fulfillment. Grand Prix Legends still holds the dearest of places in my heart for what they did to make those classic racers handle in a way that is so sensitive and alive. Richard Burns Rally has just made my heart much bigger! GPL was created in 1998 and six years later still holds a huge following with hundreds of added tracks created by others. I am confident this game will also bring you many years of awe, amazement, and totally immersed enjoyment. I have complete admiration and appreciation for what this team has done in their attention to every detail in getting it right; from the photo realistic graphics to the intricate detailed sounds to the amazingly interactive suspension working in real time over long and highly varied roads and road surfaces.
This game it as pure 10. As pure as it gets. I can truly recommend this to anyone with a computer and graphics card, not just to those already enjoying 3D games and/or racing. If you don't have one, spend the extra $20 as soon as you can for a Wingman Formula Force or similar force feedback wheel on ebay or from here at Amazon to fully unlock what this game has to offer. You can experience and feel the best of racing without having to pay for crashing your car! ...and believe me, you will have many terrific tumbling crashes!
Good luck and the happiest of trails...
