Rails of Europe is an add on game to Railways of the World. You need Railways of the World to be able to play this game. You need the parts, cards, money, etc. You are getting the board so that you can play Railways in a different part of the world... It's a fun strategy game, like Risk but not as confrontational.

Our 3 year old wanted a train set but is not old enough for an electric set. This one looks like a big boy set but is very affordable and easy to use. Santa had brought one that cost much more and was a piece of junk. This was a wonderfull find. I highly recommend it.

Lionel Little Lines Train Playset Review

Lionel Little Lines Train Playset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3 yr old son got this train for Christmas. He loves it! Had no problems with the remote and it is very easy for him to play with. It goes in forward and reverse with ease, even with him moving it back and forth as fast as he can. Only problem is that it doesn't have a lot of track with it. Can someone write a review and post where you can find more track and what type of track this train uses?

Click Here to see more reviews about: Lionel Little Lines Train Playset

Lionel Little Lines brings the rich tradition of Lionel to young children ages 2½ and up. Snap-together track and a simple remote controller for forward and reverse movement make it easy for little hands to operate. Authentic train details and realistic sounds make it a classic Lionel product. Our introductory offer of this exciting product line is a 49-piece train playset that comes with a complete layout of track, including two bridges and railroad crossing, and a finely-detailed train with a steam engine, tender, gondola, and caboose. Plus, it even includes a working freight station with crane, cargo slide, and two-way cargo dump. A billboard and three signs complete the scene.

A great, colorful engine. My son loves this "snowplow choo choo" and still plays with it after a year. The drive shafts move with the wheels. Works with his Thomas set, is much less expensive and higher quality than Thomas.

Bachmann Trains The DeWitt Clinton Ready-to-Run HO Train Set Review

I am 57 years old and building my first model railroad in my garage. I still have my HO train set from childhood but wanted somethiong different to start a new. This will be the center piece for my new Railroad City. Remember to be gentle with this product. It has many very tiny pieces and is delicate. This is not a toy for young children without adult supervision.

Named after the father of the Erie Canal, the DeWitt Clinton made its maiden run on August 9, 1831. As one of the earliest steam operated carriers in America, the DeWitt Clinton is truly unique in railroading history. With its passengers riding in standard stagecoach bodies mounted on railroad wheels, the sight of the DeWitt Clinton was just as startling in 1831 as it would be today.

I'm usually the type to make our own cards, but these were cute and I was strapped for time. I decided to print the info inside and found that the card stock is rather thick for my deskjet. So, even if you print a test sheet, beware that the thickness still doesn't fit well. If you don't have money/time to waste, writing in the info will actually work out to being faster.

LEGO® Creator Emerald Night Train (10194) Review

LEGO® Creator Emerald Night Train (10194)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Which Lego train system is this? This is Lego's first engine and car for the new Power Function's (PF) train system. PF motors and infrared control devices are now common across a number of Lego product lines (e.g., Creator and Technic). If you have the old 9 volt system (which many Lego users were sorry to see discontinued) you can attempt a modification and place an old motor unit on this new train (others are doing this to varying degrees of elegance); axle width has not changed. If you have either of the RC train sets (7897 and 7898, which were brought out after 9 volt in 2006), those units have their own motor and infrared units (i.e., non-PF). PF and RC use the exact same track.
What do you need to run this train? This set does not come with any track or any of the motors or infrared receivers or control units. The track is currently (spring 2010) available in three sets: 7896 (straight and curved), 7895 (switches), and 8867 (flexible track). If these are not readily available on Amazon, check for them at Lego. The PF units are usually a little more difficult to source and the best selection is typically directly from Lego. The PF units required for this train are: 8882 (1 XL motor), 8884 (IR receiver), 8878 (battery), 8879 (remote control), 8887 (transformer for the battery). You can also add a light (8870). The cost of these accessories is usually more than the Emerald Night set itself. Also, the PF Motor Set #8293 is NOT designed for the Emerald Night; 8293 is designed to power a number of Technic sets.
Comments on the set: It is not much of a stretch to say that this is the most finely rendered steam engine that Lego has ever offered for sale. The engine it most closely approximates is a British Pacific Class A3. The set compares nicely to the best of the 9 volt era sets (e.g.: 10020 Sante Fe Super Chief, 10022 and 10025 Santa Fe passenger cars, 10133 BNSF, 10170 TTX, and 10183 Hobby Train). With the Emerald Night, Lego is introducing new driving wheels. If you look closely at them, you will notice that not all of the drivers have flanges (so called blind drivers); this allows the train to negotiate curves that would otherwise be too tight. When Lego announced the Emerald Night, they released a short video of the train's designer, Jamie Berard, discussing the set. I recommend that you find the video on the net as it will give you a better sense of the scale of the train and its novel features. As of late 2009, at least one Lego representative has stated that they will not be producing stand-alone passenger car sets for the Emerald Night.
Of all the Lego trains currently available, this one is the most difficult to build and the drivetrain sometimes requires tinkering. There have been a few discussion threads in the Eurobricks train forum about small modifications that can increase reliability.
In April, 2011, Lego introduced set 10219, a highly realistic American freight engine with two container cars. This new set is likely a category replacement for the Emerald Night. So if you want the Emerald Night in your collection, I would not wait too much longer. Prices for this train on the secondary market will likely rise once Lego delists the set.

Little Joe N Scale Train Set Review

Little Joe N Scale Train Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was happy with my purchase. "Train Sets Only", the company that shipped the product, shipped promptly and the product box arrived in good condition. None of the items in the package were missing or broken.
The train cars have nice detail, although the doors on the freight boxcars do not open. The engine has tiny metal bars that effectively emulate the motion of a real steam train piston. The engine does not have a light, and does not smoke.
The train only took about 10 minutes to set up initially. None of the train track sections or their connectors were bent. The power supply has a variable analog speed control for going forward and reverse. The wires are already spliced. It also has an extra set of AC terminals for accessories. Make sure you use the DC terminals for the train track. It's clearly labeled.
The plastic connectors for the boxcars are very delicate, but they adequately do the job. You may have to carefully push the connectors in place with a screwdriver to get some of them to latch completely. If you're having trouble getting a connector to latch, try turning the boxcar around.
Some other train set evaluations have complained that the trains derail easily. This train also derails easily. However, I found this is caused more by the track than the engine. I had to do a few things to prevent derailing:
- Minimize the gap between tracks. Firmly press each section of track together.
- Check that the shape of the overall track is correct. There is a lot of play in the way the track pieces fit together. Make sure the overall track closely matches the expected shape. For example, you can make the oval shape wider or thinner by pressing outward or inward on opposite sections of the oval. If the oval is misshapen, it can mean that individual sections of track are not fitted together correctly.
- You may have to press down on some of the metal track connectors. If they protrude upward, they can cause a wheel to derail.
- If the train does derail, it will usually do so in the same place each time. Adjust the track at that location.
After 15 minutes of meticulous track adjusting, I managed to get the track placed well enough that the engine no longer derails and the boxcars stay connected, even when running the train for extended periods.
The included houses require assembly, but I personally prefer that. You'll need to provide your own plastic glue to glue them together. The little trees look great. One tree has tiny grapefruit, and the other tree has tiny apples (tiny yellow and red plastic balls.) The third tree is an evergreen.
I bought this set for my three-and-a-half year old. It's a "look but don't touch toy" for him, but he's still excited about it. Everything in this set is extremely delicate, and will break easily. The fact that the set requires close adult supervision is fine, since it's a reason to spend time with my son.
I gave this product 5 stars because it is a great value. There are certainly higher quality train sets out there, but they will cost twice as much, or more. This is a great novice set for the price.

Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway - Repair and Go Station at Sodor Steamworks Review

Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway - Repair and Go Station at Sodor Steamworks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've found that many of the Thomas Wooden Railway destinations are either a hit or a miss. The misses generally are too complicated, poorly thought out, or feel half baked. This is definitely a miss.
First, it is HUGE, not that that's bad, I bought it in person so I knew how big it would be, but because of the size and the configuration of the track going in/out of it, it is hard to incorporate into a working track plan. The two track entrances on the front necessitate that you offset the shop away from the edge of the table and run track in front of the shop. This pushes the destination further away from little hands. Then, the actual functions in the shop are hard to reach, and since they don't work that well (the lift is useless and requires two hands, the wheel tester generally requires two hands, and the crane is super top heavy) the added reach over the front track is frustrating for little kids.
Next, the crane is a nightmare. Not only is it unstable (it really should be affixed to the giant base of the shop), but it's poorly designed also. The knob on the side to raise/lower the string is stiff and has a very low profile, so you need to wrap several fingers around it to get it to turn. I find that everyone who tries this ends up skinning their knuckles on the sharp corners of the cranes support column if you don't have the crane perfectly square with the base. Also, the yellow claw on the crane is fixed and you need to 'snap' it over engines you want to pick up, but the motion is so difficult that you end up picking the engine off the track with your hands, snapping it in, swinging the engine over to the left/wheel tester while skinning your knuckles, then picking it up again while wrestling it out of the claw. I can barely do it, never mind my three year old. Luckily, you can remove the claw, which leaves a magnet like many of the other Thomas Wooden Railway cranes.
It does provide a good backdrop for breakdown/repair story lines, and I do rotate it in and out of the layout, but I just don't feel that it's worth the price for how frustrating it is to use.
